Alarm near railway station
Delhi Police conducted searches near the New Delhi Railway Station on Monday evening after a suspicious-looking jute bag was found,but the police realised that that there was no security issue involved in it. The police and the fire brigade received a call around 6.35 pm about a suspicious bag in a waste dump near Ginger Hotel and the New Delhi Railway station. After the area was secured,the police conducted extensive checks. We found that there was nothing dangerous in the bag, a senior police official said.
Court calls for status report
A city court has asked the Delhi Police to file status report in the alleged gangrape of an executive of a private firm by three Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials in 2006. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Kumar Pandey,while expressing displeasure over the non-appearance of the investigating officer (IO),asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to file the probe report on February 17,the next date of hearing.
Life term for raping daughter
A city court on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his daughter. Additional Sessions Judge Nivedita Anil Sharma,who passed the order at Tis Hazari court,relied upon the testimony of the 11-year-old victim to convict the accused. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.
Rs 389 cr for liver hospital
The Delhi Cabinet on Monday sanctioned Rs 389 crore for the construction of the second phase of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS). The institute was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit last week. The second phase is expected to begin by December 2011 and the number of beds is likely to go up from present 155 to 353. The construction will be carried out by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The second phase will include an academic block,an administrative block,a clinical block,a residential block,support services,and a connecting bridge or tunnel at each level. A helipad to deal with emergency situations has also been proposed.
Mock drill at IGI Airport
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF),together with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Delhi Police,conducted a mock security drill at the IGI Airport on Monday. Between 1.45 pm and 2.45 pm,the security agencies created a set-up wherein an explosives-laden vehicle was enter the domestic arrivals terminal 1C. The quick reaction teams of the CISF,SWAT teams of the Delhi Police and the bomb detection and disposal squad of the BCAS were involved to carry out the Render Safe Procedure (RSP) check, an airport official said. The official said the main aim of the exercise was to neutralise explosives in the car.
Children injured on way to school
Five persons,four of them children,were injured after the scooter they were travelling on was allegedly hit by a tempo in Swaroop Nagar area of West Delhi on Monday morning. The accident occurred around 7 am when Asif,19,was on way to drop his three brothers identified as Arman,6,Aftab,7,Mehtab,8 and another child,Archana,7,to their school in Nathu Pura area,police said. The injured,residents of Shastri Park in Burari,received minor injuries and were released from hospital after first aid. A case has not been registered as no official complaint has been lodged,a police official said.
Three held for robberies
The Delhi Police claimed to have solved a number of robberies with the arrest of three youths from Model Town area in Northwest Delhi on Monday. Police also claimed to have recovered Rs 70,000,silver and artificial jewellery and a three-wheeler from their possession.
