Increased VAT from today
After the Delhi Assembly approved the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) on 150 essential commodities,like medicines and eatables,the Delhi government notified the increase on Wednesday. An increased VAT of 1 per cent will be charged from Thursday. The government also notified the amendment in the Luxury and Entertainment Act,due to which users of Direct-to-Home services will have to pay Rs 20 extra for

each connection.

No beef in Games,says Rajnath
Former BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday asked the Delhi administration and the Commonwealth Games organising committee to keep beef out of the menu during the event. It would hurt religious sentiments, Singh stated in a letter to Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna and organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi. In the letter,Singh also referred to a resolution adopted unanimously by the MCD to keep beef out of the menu.
