Stricter hostel rules: JNU students protest decision
New Delhi: Students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University on Monday protested against the decision of the Dean of Students to strictly reinforce the rules of the university Hostel Manual. In the wake of the shooting and circulation of a sexually explicit video clip in the university,the Deans office has issued a circular restricting access to the hostels.
Cong workers,cops clash at AICC headquarters
New Delhi: A minor argument turned ugly at the AICC headquarters on Monday evening when some party workers clashed with security personnel who were reportedly drunk. A call was reportedly made from the Congress headquarters by a party worker around 9 pm,who claimed a group of drunk security men posted at 24,Akbar Road were creating a ruckus. The police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the workers. No case has been filed.
Robbers attack traders house,flee with Rs 4 lakh
New Delhi: Unidentified robbers allegedly struck at the house of a businessman,held his wife hostage and decamped with cash and jewellery worth around Rs 4 lakh. According to the police,the incident occurred around 10 pm in Mansarowar Park area of Northeast Delhi on Sunday evening. The family claimed they had been robbed of cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 1.3 lakh. Ramesh runs a business of cosmetic products. A case has been registered.
Evening rains bring down mercury in city
New Delhi: The city received rains on Monday evening,following a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. Rains are expected to continue over the next two days,taking down the temperature by a few notches. On Monday,the maximum temperature dipped to two degrees below normal at 22.2 degrees Celsius. Temperatures on Tuesday will be around 20 degrees.
Non-payment of salary: DTC workers strike
New Delhi: Around 400-odd contractual DTC bus drivers and conductors called for a strike on Monday,alleging that they had not received their salaries for the last three months. Around 600 DTC buses remained off the road till 4 pm. Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said that the strike was withdrawn after the government assured the the employees that their demands will be met.
Metro Phase-III: Meet with Planning Commission
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro on Monday presented the proposal for the funding pattern of its Phase-III project before the Planning Commission. DMRC chief E Sreedharan and other senior officials attended the meeting. While the Planning Commission wants the debt equity ratio to be 50:50,the DMRC has proposed a ratio of 40:60,under which Delhi and the Centre will contribute 20 per cent each.
