Police Control Room vans,the new ambulance in Delhi
Police Control Room (PCR) vans in the Capital seem to have become the citys new ambulance,with 50,765 injured people being transported to hospitals by the police in 2009. Of this,18,094 were road accident victims,while 32,671 were involved in other accidents. As PCR vans are the first to reach any accident site,in most cases they are the ones ferrying victims to the hospital, Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said. The PCR service received 2,057 calls from students and children,7,646 calls from women and 2,708 calls from senior citizens during the year. The PCRs have also arrested 35 dacoits,17 snatchers,10 burglars and 960 other offenders being taken into custody by them.
Licensed guns in Gurgaon to be deposited by Mar 31
The Gurgaon police have directed all licensed weapon holders to deposit their weapons at their respective police stations by March 30,following a directive issued by the Centre,in the run-up to Commonwealth Games. The directive states that all licensed weapons in the National Capital Region should be deposited at least six months before the Games commence,Gurgaon Police Commissioner Surjeet Singh Deswal told reporters here on Saturday. Special instructions have been issued to those possessing guns and to the police stations in this regard. The deposited weapons would be handed over to the owners after the Games are over, Deswal said.
Man killed,2 injured in road accident
A 27-year-old man was killed after his car rammed into a divider in Hauz Khaz area of South Delhi on Friday night and collided with another car. According to the police,the accident occurred at around 11 pm. The deceased,Veeru,a resident of Masjid Moth,was returning home in his Maruti A-Star when the accident occurred. The police said he lost control due to the dense fog. The car crashed into the divider,climbed over to the opposite side of the road and crashed into a Honda City, the police said. The two occupants of Honda City car sustained injuries. Veeru and driver of the other car,Arjun,were taken to AIIMS,where Veeru succumbed to his injuries. Arjuns condition is critical, a police official said.
