DU demonstration: 40 teachers detained
Around 40 Delhi University teachers were detained at the Timarpur police station for about an hour and a half on Wednesday evening when they tried to demonstrate outside the DU Vice-Chancellors office. The demonstration against the implementation of the semester system was set to coincide with Vice President Hamid Ansaris visit to the Convocation Hall. The teachers were removed before Ansaris visit.
Swine flu patient dies in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: A 46-year-old man suffering from swine flu died on August 29 at Gurgaons Artemis Hospital,confirmed the hospitals chief medical officer Dr Praveen Garg. The patient,identified as Dharampal,was from Uttar Pradesh and had been admitted on August 19. Doctors at the hospital,however,denied that the death was due to swine flu. The patient was critically ill with pulmonary infection and renal failure, said a hospital spokesperson.
Gang held for looting petrol pumps
Gurgaon:The Gurgaon police have arrested a gang of criminals for their alleged involvement in robberies at various petrol pumps across Delhi,Gurgaon and Jhajjar. A CIA team nabbed the five suspects at Rajiv Chowk. They were identified as Harun,Aasru,Alimuddin,Hafiz and Amin. The police said they were identified from the footage of petrol pump CCTV cameras. A Santro car used in the crime was confiscated.
Suspecting affair,man kills wife
Ghaziabad: A 42-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband after he suspected that she was having an affair. The police said the victim,Neelam,was allegedly murdered after her husband Satish Tyagi saw a man coming out of their house in Niwari village of Ghaziabad. Satish suspected his wife was having an affair. He had an argument and allegedly killed his wife, the police said. The couple has four children. SHO K K Rana said Tyagi is absconding and no case has been lodged yet. A hunt has been launched to nab the accused.
Defacement Act: Walia writes to cops for action
Delhi Urban Development Minister Dr A K Walia has directed the MCD and the Delhi Police to stringently implement the Delhi Defacement Act to ensure a clean Delhi before the Games. In a review meeting held by Walia,MCD and NDMC officials complained that the Delhi Police seemed reluctant to file FIRs in defacement cases. The minister has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner on the matter. The Delhi Police has registered 247 cases against defaulters between April and August this year.
RLA teachers gherao principal; cops called in
Teachers on a strike at Ram Lal Anand College gheraoed Principal Vijay K Sharma in the college parking lot on Wednesday,demanding that he go on a long leave so that a probe could be initiated against him. While the teachers claimed Sharma had accepted their demands,Sharma denied it,claiming he was going on one or two days personal leave so that the DUSU elections could be conducted smoothly. He added that he had to call for police assistance for the second consecutive day to assist him out of the college.
