Ahead of Independence Day,the intelligence agencies have intimated the Delhi Police about the possibility of Army I-cards being used by terrorists to gain access to secure areas. The advisory,a copy of which is with Newsline, says 87 identity cards of personnel posted in a unit have been missing since December 14,2006.

“In view of the frequent inputs that militants will try to acquire identity cards of government departments to gain access to important locations as well as areas proximate to VVIPs it is necessary that all personnel deployed in arrangements should be alert about the matter,” the advisory states. Intelligence sources said police forces across the nation were being advised about the missing cards to thwart any untoward incident.

Intelligence agencies have also hinted towards the use of unconventional weapons by the terrorists. “Although terrorists have been relying more on firearms and explosives, exploring technical weapons using radioactive material remains a distinct possibility,” the advisory states.
