The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response from the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on a petition on irregularities in the admission process for undergraduate courses under the sports quota.
A division bench comprising Justices M C Garg and Ajit Bharihoke issued a notice directing the college to respond by August 28 to the allegations of Abhishek Chandran, who claimed that his application had not been accepted by the college last year despite his name being the first on the waiting list, while another candidate, whose name did not figure in the list, was admitted.
The petition, which was earlier heard by a single judge, was dismissed on the ground that the admission process had been completed by that time. The single bench had, however, said the college had not been able to explain why a certain candidate was given admission despite not figuring in the the merit list and waiting list.
Advocate Sunil J Mathews the students counsel, contended the entire admission process through the sports quota is illegal as it is being handled by the colleges sports convener who does not possess the qualifications required under the UGC guidelines.
