A 25-year-old man was killed on Saturday morning when he tried to cross over to another Metro platform by walking across the tracks.
The incident occurred at 7.25 am at the Uttam Nagar West Metro station. Officials said Rahul Thapa jumped on the tracks just when a train from Dwarka was entering the station.
The train operator applied the emergency brakes. But by the time the train stopped,two coaches had already entered the platform area. The man was taken out from under the frame of the train by station staff in a conscious state, a statement issued by the DMRC read.
After a call was made to the PCR,Thapa was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital,officials added.
While the DMRC statement said the man was taken to the hospital in a conscious state with no visible injury marks,sources in the CISF,which secures Metro stations,said Thapa suffered severe head injuries. Doctors declared him dead around 9.30 am, the DMRC statement said.
DDU Hospitals Medical Superintendent Harneet Singh,however,said he was not aware of the case.
The Delhi Police,meanwhile,has registered a case of death due to negligence. Police said Thapa,a resident of Chamba,was on his way to visit his maternal aunt in Janakpuri.
