2010 Looking ahead

* The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has allocated a sum of Rs 1189 crore to enhance,expand and upgrade city infrastructure

* 71 Commonwealth countries will take part in the 19th Commonwealth Games

* During the Games,1,500 samples will be collected from athletes – the highest in the Commonwealth Games – for drug testing by the Commonwealth Games Federation Medical and Doping Commission

* 9 new car parks are being built in the vicinity of the Games venues with a capacity for 7,500 vehicles

* 20 new hospitals will be functional by 2010 to enhance Delhi’s healthcare and medical infrastructure,according official figures

* Water supply in the city will be augmented from 670 million gallons per day (MGD) to around 900 MGD by the next year. Two new initiatives have been taken in this regard

* 25,000 additional rooms are being built to meet accommodation requirements during the event

* 17 sporting events will take place at 6 venue clusters and 5 standalone venues in the city

* An extra 5 million tourists expected to visit Delhi during the Games in 2010
