1984 anti-sikh riots: Are Verma’s claims against Tytler legitimate, court asks CBI

Arms dealer Verma had said that Tytler, who was given a clean chit in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, influenced a witness and made hawala transactions.

A Delhi court on Wednesday, asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inform it about the efforts made to ascertain the veracity of the claim made by arms dealer Abhishek Verma referring to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler.

Verma had said that Tytler, who was given a clean chit in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, influenced a witness and made hawala transactions.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S P S Laler, who had earlier asked the CBI prosecutor the same question, repeated his query during Wednesday’s proceedings, after the agency did not respond in the first instance.

“You first tell me about what efforts have been made by you (CBI) to find out whether what witness no. 8 Abhishek Verma is saying is truth or lie,” the court asked the CBI. “Continue your arguments on October 30 and also inform me about the efforts made by the agency to verify Verma’s claims,” the magistrate added.
