(Photo: X/@chennaicorp)The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Tuesday launched intensive mosquito control operations across the city.
Launching the drive at the 74th ward in Tiru Vi Ka Nagar, Chennai Mayor R Priya administered a public pledge to remove mosquito breeding sources among civic body workers and authorities.
According to a statement issued by the GCC, 17 lakh houses under their jurisdiction have been split into small sectors and within each sector, comprising about 500 houses, workers will carry out activities every week to clear the mosquito breeding sources such as overhead water tanks, storm-water drains, stagnant water in construction sites among other builds, and items including, tyres, plastic containers.

The GCC said 3,319 workers, 362 compression sprayers, 69 power sprayers, 202 battery sprayers, 238 hand-operated fogging machines and 65-vehicle mounted fogging machines are set to be utilised for mosquito control operations.
Further, fever cases reported in government and corporation hospitals, and identified in laboratories are being collected and sent to each zone. Health officials have been intimated to carry out requisite mosquito prevention activities and spread awareness among the public over dengue and the preventive measures they need to take.
