Nearly two years after being expelled from the AIADMK for anti-party activities, senior leader A Anwar Raajhaa rejoined the party on Friday in the presence of general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Addressing reporters at the party headquarters after rejoining amid senior party functionaries, Raajhaa said he doesn’t want any posts and will work for the party’s welfare.

On AIADMK’s BJP ties, he said criticising another party is different from an alliance where only the leadership decides. “Even today, BJP leaders are criticising AIADMK, but when it comes to alliance, only the party high can decide anything. Each and every party except Congress, had been in alliance with BJP. DMK had been in alliance with BJP. They had a very close relationship with them. We are not like that. AIADMK had never been hesitant to cut ties with any alliance if there comes a hurdle to our ideology,” he said,” he stated.

When asked if he expects due importance after being expelled in November 2021, Raajhaa said being an AIADMK cadre itself is a great identity. The party’s minority face from Ramanathapuram added that only the leadership will decide on a Lok Sabha poll ticket for him.

Raajhaa was expelled for seeking the return of VK Sasikala, a close aide of late CM and party chief J Jayalalithaa. He has also strongly criticised BJP, blaming the loss in 2021 Assembly polls on their alliance.

The veteran politician had joined DMK in the 1960s before moving to AIADMK on its formation. He was Labour Minister from 2001-2006 and MP from Ramanathapuram in 2014.
