The Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday carried out a protest in Chennai to condemn the ruling DMK government for registering a case against their state party president K Annamalai in connection with the row over alleged attacks against migrant workers.

The protest led by party vice-president Karu Nagarajan at Valluvar Kottam saw the participation of senior functionaries of Tamil Nadu BJP. Several cadres who gathered at the event carried placards and raised slogans against the ruling government.

Actor and member of National Commission for Women, Khushbu Sundar, while speaking at the protest site, asked DMK if it is scared of Annamalai and the growing support among public for the party. The actor claimed it was the DMK that spoke ill of migrant workers and attempted to create a divide between them and the locals.

“I am asking the cops; you booked a case against Annamalai, have you arrested him? How many more false cases are you going to register against him? He has seen all these challenges and has reached this stage. He does not fear, the word fear has never been in the BJP dictionary,” Khushbu said.

She noted that only people who have done wrong will fear, and BJP is a party that asks direct questions and is competent to rule without any corruption. Khushbu added that DMK is registering false cases against BJP leaders knowing they will not return to power in 2026.

A fictitious report about 12 labourers from Bihar being hanged and two old videos of clashes falsely attributed as Tamils attacking Hindi-speaking migrant workers in Tamil Nadu were widely shared on social media as proof during the recent controversy.

In a tweet last week, Annamalai accused DMK MPs of making vile comments about North Indians. He noted that the current situation has been exacerbated by comments from one DMK minister who referred to them as “Panipuri wala” and demands for their exodus by DMK’s alliance partners.

“The divide that DMK always stood for is coming back to bite them and it is now their responsibility to fix this situation and is an opportunity for them to put an end to their defunct propaganda,” he had tweeted.

Annamalai was booked by the cops under various sections of the Indian Penal code for allegedly promoting hatred between different groups.

Hours later, the BJP leader in a tweet noted that he understands DMK has registered a case against him for exposing their seven-decade propaganda against north Indians and he challenged them to arrest him.
