Yashas manages to stay in lead

If the first day of the championship belonged to youngster Yashas Chandra,the second day in the IGU Punjab Junior Golf Tournament certainly belonged to Veer Ahlawat of Army Golf Course Delhi.

If the first day of the championship belonged to youngster Yashas Chandra,the second day in the IGU Punjab Junior Golf Tournament certainly belonged to Veer Ahlawat of Army Golf Course Delhi. Even though Chandra stayed in the lead after the second round,it was Ahlawat who returned with the day’s best score of 71 to lie tied second after the end of the second round.

A day after he returned with five birdies,Chandra managed a birdie while he bogeyed the third and 11th hole and a double bogey at the fourth and 15th hole to return with a score of 77 on the second day. The score meant that Chandra’s lead was cut short to one stroke at the end of the second day’s play. Close behind Chandra are Veer Ahlawat (77,71) of Army Golf Course,Delhi,Hemant Kumar Yadav (72,76) of Shivalik Golf Course,Roshan Raj (72,76) and Piyush Sangwan (75,73) from Category B. They are all at 4-over par 148. The day’s best score of 71 each came from Veer Ahlawat,who played very well,and Ravi Kumar who had three birdies and two bogeys. In the absence of Prakhar Asawa,the leader is Piyush in Category B at four over par 148,leaving the way behind. In the tied second position at 13-over par 157 are Karandeep Kochar,Arjun Prasad,Tanvir Kahlon and Ritwik Jain.

“The front nine was not that good for me but the back nine saw me playing better. I am happy to be in tied second spot after a bad first round and I expect to do well in the third round on Thursday,” said Chandigarh golfer Karandeep Kochar. A total of 72 players,with 36 in each Categories A and B,started off.
