Workshop held on renewable energy

A workshop on ‘recent trends on renewable energy sources’ was held in PEC University of Technology under the TEQIP-II Programme on Thursday.

A workshop on ‘recent trends on renewable energy sources’ was held in PEC University of Technology under the TEQIP-II Programme on Thursday.

The Electrical Engineering Department of the college has organised the conference. Director PEC Prof Manoj Datta in his inaugural address emphasized on an interdisciplinary approach towards research.

The focus of the workshop was to promote research and development towards the integration of renewable energy resources and energy efficiency.

The speakers who were present included Pushpinder Singh,director Aqua Power Ltd. Chandigarh,HS Sandhu,senior manager PEDA,Chandigarh,Balkar Singh,senior manager PEDA,Chandigarh,and Rohit Sen from TERI,New Delhi.

Pushpinder Singh explained the need and practicalities of small hydro systems and elucidated the benefits of such plants. Rohit Sen focused on the solar PV based applications like solar rooftop SPV,smart mini grids and others.

The workshop was coordinated by Prof Tarlochan Kaur and Prof Raminder Kaur of Electrical Engineering Department .

Prof Tarlochan Kaur while concluding the conference said,“New technologies are being developed for higher energy efficiencies. It is absolutely essential to continue and enhance research and development work and efforts towards market introduction of all forms of renewable energy conversion. But only the technologies with quasi unlimited potential can cover human energy needs in the long run.”
