Vermani case: Cops submit chargesheet

After allegedly raping her, the doctor dropped her home while she was still under the influence of drugs.

The Chandigarh police on Thursday submitted the charge-sheet in the rape case against Dr Lalit Vermani, a former district health officer of Panchkula.

The 200-page document, along with a compact disc (CD), was submitted in the court of Junior Division Civil Judge Hasan Deep Singh Bajwa. The CD contains CCTV footage of Hotel Shivalikview, showing the doctor and the complainant entering and leaving the hotel.

The case against Dr Vermani was registered on May 6 after a woman, resident of Himchal Pradesh, complained that the doctor had allegedly drugged her and then raped her in a room in Hotel Shivalikview.

After hiding in Delhi for eight days, Dr Vermani surrendered to the police on May 15. In her complaint, the woman alleged that the doctor had lured her to the hotel room on the pretext of arranging a job for her.

After allegedly raping her, the doctor dropped her home while she was still under the influence of drugs. After she gained full consciousness, she approached the police.
