UT sends proposal for 10 additional courts

The Chandigarh Administration has written to the central government asking it to provide ten additional Courts in Chandigarh District Courts,Sector 43. This was conveyed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation.

However,the Administration was reprimanded by the high court for dragging its feet on the issue. The Chandigarh lower Court is facing a deficit of Judges which is also resulting in pendency of cases.

The HC,on July 26 had directed the Administration to send a proposal to the Central government without delay. However,the Administration sent the proposal only on Monday. Peeved,the HC questioned the Administration’s reason for delay.

A detailed proforma,requesting manpower,staff was sent by the Administration on Monday. The HC directed the Central government to decide the Administration’s proposal within two weeks.
