UT nominates 9 councillors

The UT Administration has finalised the list of nominated councillors for the Municipal Corporation General House.

The UT Administration has finalised the list of nominated councillors for the Municipal Corporation General House. With a few of the names being of people with direct or indirect affiliation to the Congress,the BJP has cried foul over the selection. With no party having a clear mandate in the civic body elections,the nominated councillors will play a crucial role in the Mayors election. In the polls,the BJP-SAD alliance bagged 12 seats,Congress 11,BSP 2 and independent one.

People who are directly related to Congress functionaries have been nominated. With the nominations made by the Administrator,his credibility is under doubt. There was a delay in announcing the names and these should have been announced a day before the declaration of results. We will create awareness about this among the public and the issue of voting rights given to the nominated councillors will be taken up in Parliament.

Some nominated councillors are related to Congress leaders but they are meritorious individuals. We would appreciate if anybody accepts the policies of the Congress. But except for our own 11 elected representatives,we cannot direct the others. Those nominated are educated and well deserving.
