UT clears project for piped gas supply in city

The Chandigarh Administration has given a go ahead to supply of gas through pipelines in the city.

The Chandigarh Administration has given a go ahead to supply of gas through pipelines in the city. The decision to this effect was taken during a presentation given to UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil at the Punjab Raj Bhawan by the Petroleum Natural Gas Regulatory Board’s chairperson L Man Singh. Patil assured the Board that the Chandigarh Administration will provide the requisite support,but the Board must ensure that the residents are not put to any sort of inconvenience while the gas pipelines are being laid in the city.

To start with,the pipelines will be laid in Chandigarh,Panchkula,Mohali and Pinjore,as part of the gas distribution network. During the presentation,L Man Singh emphasised that Chandigarh has already been selected for providing piped gas supply,both for domestic and commercial use. Singh also highlighted the benefits of increased use of natural gas and its impact on saving the environment.

During the discussion with members of the Board and senior officials of the Administration,Patil also emphasised on the need to increasingly use solar energy. Patil also said that all conventional sources of energy will have limited availability whereas solar energy will be available to mankind for all times to come.
