Upgrade electricity dept infrastructure: BJP

BJP leaders on Tuesday alleged that residents had to bear the brunt of several irregularities in the UT electricity department.

The leaders demanded that the infrastructure must be upgraded in order to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the city residents.

This year,the summer months were marked with power cuts extending up to a couple of hours. Even though the department claimed that electricity was available as per demand,the infrastructure could not sustain the load.

BJP leaders Satinder Singh and Shakti Prakash Devshali in a statement issued on Tuesday said the residents were being forced to suffer.

The leaders further stated that the department had collected a huge sum of money from electricity consumers under the head Voluntary Disclosure of Electricity Load,but nothing had been done till date to improve the electricity supply or to meet the demand of increased electricity load.

They demanded that the existing wires should be replaced. The duo further stated that the department was suffering from shortage of equipment and field staff. Several cases of fixing electricity meters were pending and no action was being taken by the department,rued the leaders.
