The CBI on Thursday arrested a head constable of UT Police, Dalbir Singh for accepting bribe of Rs 1,500 from president of Kranti Auto Rickshaw Union of Sector 22. Singh was arrested at the roundabout at intersection of Sector 11, 12, 14 and 15 around 2 pm on Thursday.
A CBI officer said, Singh was posted at the recovery vehicle duty of Traffic Police in PGI. Initially, he had asked the complainant to give him Rs 3,000 per month and in return he would make sure that none of the autos of their union are challaned.
Singh had allegedly demanded the money on Tuesday and on Wednesday, the president of the union contacted CBI. The complainant then negotiated the amount with Singh. The deal was finalised at Rs 50 per auto which summed up to Rs 1,500 per month for 30 autos.
The allegations were verified and a case was registered by CBI following which a trap was laid. The accused was taken to the Department of Laws, PU where the preliminary evidences were taken on record along with the statements of the independent witnesses. “He was arrested on road and so we needed a place to carry out the paper work and the accused was taken to PU,” said the CBI officer.
Raids were being conducted at Singh’s residence at the time of filing of this report. He will be produced in Special CBI court on Friday.
