Tip Top

You don’t have be a high-maintenance fashionista to know that there can more to your fingernails than just a coat of polish

You don’t have be a high-maintenance fashionista to know that there can more to your fingernails than just a coat of polish. While French manicures are de rigueur, emerging trends in the world of nail art range from the beautiful to the bizarre. From ‘stiletto nails’ to those dotted with caviar, the idea, say experts,is to let one’s hands do all the talking. “The nail industry is the next big thing in the business of beauty in India,” said Shivani Sharma,Managing Partner and Technical Head,Lure Nails. In Chandigarh to conduct a workshop highlighting the latest trends,Sharma mentioned how an increasing number of urban Indians, women and men both, are paying an increasing amount of attention to their hands. “In the corporate world,it’s the first impression,” said Sharma. “Apart from floral motifs and bejewelled designs, the latest trend includes caviar style,” she added. Quite similar to the real caviar, these are actually glittering miniscule beads that are individually stuck on to the nails for a high-glam look. For the more adventurous, there are velvet nails that have a furry feel to them. “Stiletto nails are internationally the big trend and get their name due to the long, pointed shape of the nail,” she said. Apart from a presentation on the new styles,a demonstration was also given at Hotel MountView. Dishing out beauty advice,Sharma said that if one maintains a hairline difference from the cuticles while painting the nails, they will never turn yellow. “What most aren’t aware of is that nail art can be permanent. Also, nail extension is the most successful cure for nail biters,” said Sharma, who has also started an international nail training academy in Gurgaon.
