Australian cricketers make most of the free time by playing golf and basketball in Chandigarh.
With six more days to go for the third Test match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, the Australian cricketers made full use of the free time. It was a deserved break for them after losing the first two matches to India, and with pressure piling on them to stage a comeback into the series, the Australian cricketers surely looked to rejuvenate themselves before taking on the Indians.
It was skipper Michael Clarke who was the first to decide to take a break from the monotony as he did not accompany the team that reached Chandigarh on March 7. Instead,he was busy with some charity work and spending time with wife Kyly Boldy at the historic Taj Mahal in Agra.
On Friday,it was the turn of other cricketers to look to replenish themselves. Opener David Warner along with Glenn Maxwell and some team officials showed their skills on the greens of Chandigarh Golf Club in the morning .
In the presence of officials of CGC, they played nine holes of golf and the game, which was was teed off at eight in the morning, went on for about three hours. As the players burst into laughter, the break seemed to have a calming effect on them.
Later, the focus shifted to St John’s High School in Sector 26 when the students of the school were taken by surprise when three other Australian cricketers- Usman Khwaja,Matthew Wade and Peter Siddle- came to play basketball at the school courts. It is believed that the three expressed their desire to indulge in a game of basketball.
A large number of students assembled at the periphery to watch the players in action and every point scored by the players was met with raucuous applause. Wade got the maximum applause when he displayed his shooting skills.
However, with the temperature rising, the heat finally seemed to get to them as the players tried their best to keep themselves hydrated. Later, when the match was over, the students came forward to interact with them and also to seek their autographs.
