Animation to painting,Pranav Kaushal discovers a new canvas to project his creativity

He has no formal training in art,but his passion for sketching and experience in animation has culminated in a solo exhibition for Pranav Kaushal. “There are several common elements in animation and painting, ranging from colour combinations to layout and sketching. The medium is the the only major change,” says Kaushal. He takes you to view 15 of his works in oil and acrylic, that are on display at Art Folio. The inspiration comes from his surroundings, nature and people. “I translate my emotions on the canvas. I first work on paper and then make a layout on canvas. I always have the background and titles worked out in my head before I begin,” adds Kaushal.

The 25-year-old also has a series on puppets, inspired by Rajasthani puppets, motifs, designs and bright colours. While the oil on canvas Life’s Traveller depicts a Rajasthani puppeteer with his puppets in the background,Light Beyond has a Rajasthani door adorned with puppets. The canvas Nature is an abstract play of varied shades of green,Sky Wonder depicts the expanse in blue,Earth is painted in soil colours with flashes of yellow and Cosmic Dance presents a dance of planets, with a flaming red background. From nature,Kaushal moves to health in a work that uses the game of chess and snakes and ladders as metaphors to depict the continuous struggles in the game of life. Taking Chances has the two faces of a clown — one looking ever-smilingly at the audience, and the other which depicts his loneliness. The work Freedom,on the other hand, has a man breaking a wall, looking out to see a new world.

The exhibition is on at the Art Folio is on till December 20.
