After years of organising film festivals and screening European films in Chandigarh,Tapesh Sharma,Secretary of the Chandigarh Film Society,is heading to Prague, where he will be part of the jury at the 46th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. “I was ecstatic when I received the invitation to be a jury member at the festival,” says Sharma, who is busy packing his bags and getting ready for a European summer.

To take place from July 1 to 9,this is one of the oldest film festivals in Europe, and Sharma feels that it is “like another Cannes”. The only Indian on the jury,Sharma says,“There will be films from all over the world and I shall be watching them and making a report that will be used in India for archival reference.”

While the red carpet fare is making Sharma a tad nervous and excited,he is also mapping the other European destinations that he intends to visit while he is the continent. “The weather will be fabulous,” he smiles. Quiz him about the films and he says that they are a world apart from what is being produced in India. “I have been getting European films and holding festivals in Chandigarh. These films are short, sensible and are very realistic in their approach,” says Sharma, who is also the assistant regional secretary at the Federation of Film Societies of India.
