Humlog’s back with its Green Film Festival

A tale of one city,a dying king of the jungle, and a story about women,a handful of them, who’ve been tilling their lands since ‘85,and made it one of the most fertile patches in India. Today, thanks to the women of Deccan Development Society sanghams, ecological balance has been restored. All this and more is going to be part of Dr Gaurav Chhabra’s Humlog and Steps Green Film Festival scheduled for June 13 and 14.

“The aim of the festival is to sensitize citizens on various environmental issues which affect their lives directly or indirectly, and hence we’ve chosen critically acclaimed films on topics ranging from wildlife conservation, urban environmental conservation to indigenous farming techniques,” tells Dr Gaurav.

While Mother Earth is a film about discovery of peace and harmony by serving earth through ecological practices of farming,Tiger – the Death Chronicles by Krishnendu Bose encapsulates 30 years of conservation attitude in this country. For the first time ever,a film joins diverse voices, from tiger scientists and conservationists to ordinary citizens,to attempt a brutal and honest assessment of the present and future of the Indian tiger and its habitat. On the other hand,Mother Earth captures efforts of women of DDS sanghams who’ve used between them about 1.2 million eco-employment days to bring back under active cultivation over 10,000 acres of degraded agricultural lands. Today, they are raising over three million kilos of grain every year. Finally,Delhi – Work in Progress, again by Bose, questions the fast changing look of what was one of the greenest capitals in the world. This 2500-year-old city’s history and greens are being transformed for a globalised look, and as Delhi’s face is changing beyond recognition, the film finds out what price are we paying in this eco-destruction.

The festival is on at Government Museum and Art Gallery Auditorium,Sector 10 on June 13 and 14,from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. It’s open for all. For more, log on to http://www.humlog.org/greenfilmfest. In the meanwhile, come August, and get ready for ‘Chhota Mooh Badi Baat-2’.
