Textbook scam: CBI court discharges former IAS officer

A special CBI court on Friday discharged former Haryana IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar and seven others in an alleged corruption case involving printing of textbooks.

A special CBI court on Friday discharged former Haryana IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar and seven others in an alleged corruption case involving printing of textbooks. The Court acquitted all the persons in two more cases on grounds of lack of evidence. Of seven chargesheets filed by the CBI,the accused have been discharged in six cases. In 2000,it was alleged that Kumar along with 13 other persons had committed gross irregularities during floating of tenders for the printing of textbooks during his tenure as project director of Haryana Prathmik Shiksha Pariyojana Parishad (HPSPP). The HPSPP was formed as a registered society for the execution of District Primary Education Project in Haryana. CBI had filed seven chargesheets against Kumar for causing wrongful gains to private fictitious printing firms and himself.
