Indian television’s popular dancer-actor dons the hat of an anchor now

You were last seen on the second season of Khatron ke Khiladi in 2009. What has kept you busy?

I did not find anything interesting on television,so I have taken a while to get back. I wanted to do something new and different after Khatron ke Khiladi. I spent all this time travelling across the world — it helps me recharge.

Why did you decide to host Dance India Dance Doubles,a dance-reality show?

The primary reason is that it is a dance show and I love dancing. People loved me in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. So what better than hosting DID. I also love the format of the show.

You were a regular on fiction shows. Will you be doing one anytime soon?

I would love to,but only if something I haven’t done before comes along. The role has to be interesting and challenging.

How is your chemistry with co-host,Jay Bhanushali?

Jay is funny. He has made a place for himself on the show and has an amazing rapport with Mithunda. He is a great person to work with.

What are your favourite shows on TV?

I am addicted to 24,Friends,How I Met Your Mother and Boston Legal.

Of all the roles you have played,which one’s your favourite?

I can never choose. Prishita in Hip Hip Hurray was as much fun as Suniti of Lipstick and Tina of Kittie Party.

What is your take on Indian television now?

I am old school—initially we had weeklies and we used to take two to three days to shoot an episode. But clearly things have changed a great deal. I do not want to comment on the quality of work but technically, we are much better. It’s a rat race now. But on the positive side,TV is generating a lot of employment.

Last month,you were spotted in Goa endorsing your brand of beachwear,Bare Bums.

I was just having some fun. I attend the Sunburn Festival every year and this time,I decided to sell some beachwear that I got manufactured from Thailand and named it Bare Bums. But the response was so thrilling that I am thinking of seriously getting into this business.

How is your dance career progressing? Will you participate in any more reality shows?

I love dancing,but I don’t have the time to learn any new dance form. I do a lot of stage shows but I will not take part in any other dance-based reality show. It is a conscious decision I have made.

Which contestant do you think will win JDJ 4?

I think Sushant Singh Rajput and his partner Shampa make a great pair and have the potential to win.
