The citys fashion scene is fast evolving and thankfully it is taking on a professional turn. This statement can be backed by the current spate of designers stepping out on their own. Instead of dishing out clothes for the neighbourhood, the ladies, mostly, have launched their own labels and solo stores are on their way. The newest one on the block is Panchkula-based Gunjan Nagpal who formally introduced her label Aura this Saturday. Interestingly, this former mass communications student returned to her first love – fashion design – some years back. Lets say I have always been style savvy, the designer mentions as we step into Hotel Piccadilly in Sector 22 where Nagpal is currently exhibiting her spring-summer collection till June 21.
After honing her skills at Delhis Pearl Academy of Fashion,Nagpal decided to launch her own label called Aura back home. My biggest support has been my husband, admits Gunjan who is now looking to open her store in the city soon. As far as her work goes, the young designer is all for smart styling. Fashion and trends change with every season and its important to invest wisely, feels Gunjan who puts together affordable fabrics and jazzes them up to make for pocket-friendly fashion. With Aura I have designed keeping a 16-year-old to a 60-year-old in mind, she says as we notice a collection of tunics lined up with semi-formal suits. Its all how you present an outfit. For my casual and semi-formal line I dont go into heavy embellishments, instead I work with subtle highlights and styling, she adds. While thats one part of Aura, the other line focuses on trousseaux. Although the wedding season is yet to arrive,I have put together heavier, sequinned sarees and suits for those on the lookout, informs Gunjan who also has a range of suits which boast of contemporary silhouettes and of course styling that clearly seems to ber her USP.
