Artist Sanjeev Kumar weaves sound into his work

Sounds, mundane and rhythmic, that enter his studio or fill the outdoors, have inspired the latest works of Sanjeev Kumar, who has exhibited his paintings at Art Folio.

A panel titled 4×7 measures 30×10 feet and is a pictorial depiction of abstract sounds. The 160 squares have varied designs and black and white lines. The sound waves depict beats of music while the colours express Kumar’s various moods. “The title 4×7 expresses internal commitment for the loved one; my birthday on a fourth and her’s on the seventh,” he says.

Kumar moved to Mumbai from Chandigarh a couple of years back and believes in travelling with his art to get regular feedback. “We communicate via the abstract medium of sound, and I have developed a habit of lending my ear to functional and non-functional sounds,” smiles the artist.

His other works, similarly depict the process of weaving sound, colour and techniques, carefully framed, into a harmonious whole.

The exhibition is on at Art Folio,Sector 9,till November 23. Contact: 072-4646724
