Sidhu Moosewala murder case: HC grants interim bail to Punjab cop who helped accused abscond

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted interim bail to dismissed Punjab Police sub-inspector, who allegedly helped gangster Deepak alias Tinu an accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, abscond from police custody last year.

An alleged aide of gangster and prime accused Lawrence Bishnoi, Tinu helped in arranging sharpshooters for the murder of Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022. While in the custody of the Punjab Police’s Crime Investigation Agency, Tinu absconded allegedly with the help of the then CIA sub-inspector Pritpal Singh in October last year.

Pritpal Singh was booked under sections 222, 224, 225-A, 212, 216, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act in Mansa district in October 2022.

Seeking bail, Pritpal Singh, through his counsel G S Kaura, contended before the High Court that he has been in custody since December 20, 2022, and the charges are yet to be considered. Singh also said the accused, Tinu who ran away, was arrested on October 31, 2022.

Hearing the matter, the bench of Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu ordered, “In the meantime, petitioner is ordered to be released on interim bail in the present case till the next date of hearing on furnishing bail bonds and surety bonds to the satisfaction of learned trial Court/Duty Magistrate concerned”.
