One injured after group opens fire during pool party in Zirakpur

Police arrested four persons in this case, while raids were on to nab the others.

Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Sandeep Garg said initial investigation revealed a person named Karan Chabbra was having pool party with his woman friend at an OYO hotel around 1 am, when a group of 8 people led by Bikram alias Vicky Badesha had a verbal altercation with the duo and Vicky’s group fired a gunshots resulting into an injury on Karan’s right leg.

Sanjeev Sharma, a member of the family who had come for the party, told the police that they had come with their family, and while they were enjoying some youngsters started misbehaving with a woman member of their family.

“The youngsters were trying to dance with the woman which enraged our family member Karan, who objected to it. A group of the youngsters then started abusing and threatened us with the dire consequences. I too had a narrow escape as the bullet was fired towards me,” Sanjeev said.

According to the sources in the police, when Karan objected, someone in the group had thrown an empty bottle at him which triggered the incident.

“A man from the group was carrying a licensed pistol and fired five rounds. One of the bullets hit Karan’s foot, some bullets also hit the glass inside the hotel which was broken,” a police officer said requesting anonymity.

Karan was taken to the hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger. All the accused managed to flee from the hotel after the incident. In the evening, police identified seven accused as Bikram alias Vicky Badesha, Sandeep Singh, Harshpreet Singh, Sehajpreet Singh, Simranjeet Singh alias Simma, Parminder Singh alias Tinka and Guri Bhullar.

An officer probing the case said that Simranjeet had fired the bullets, while Bikramjeet indulged into the brawl with Karan and his family members.

The sources said Sandeep, Harshpreet, Sehajpreet and Bikramjeet were arrested late evening, while the raids were on to nab the other accused.

The SSP said an FIR 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and section 25 Arms act was registered at Zirakpur police station. An FIR under Section 188 of the IPC was registered against the hotel management. He added that a .45 caliber pistol used in crime had been recovered.
