Sex ratio has improved: Chawla

Health and Family Welfare Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla claimed that there had been a significant improvement in the sex ratio in the state. According to the data of deliveries conducted in government health institutions,the average sex ratio at birth for 2009 was 894,which was 787 in the 2001 Census. She said Fatehgarh Sahib,which was earlier known for having lowest sex ratio in the country,reported a figure of 946.

Chawla said the success was achieved due to strict enforcement of the relevant Act,intervention of religious preachers and a multimedia awareness campaign.
