Sanitation workers go on strike at GMCH-32

Sanitation at the Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32 on Monday went in for a toss when 250 sanitation workers went on a strike at the hospital.

Sanitation at the Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32 on Monday went in for a toss when 250 sanitation workers went on a strike at the hospital. These workers are working on contract and they had been demanding uniform allowance for the past three years.

Consequently,there was no cleanliness at the hospital and the patients,doctors were considerably inconvenienced as the hospital is already spilling with dengue and fever patients.

The workers were demanding a bonus and uniform allowance of three years. Sanjeev Kumar,general secretary of the Contractual Sweepers’ Union said,“Our monthly incomes are too meagre and there have been no increments made in our salaries for many years. The demand charter had been presented to the director principal,but he asked us to leave and did not listen to our demand.”

These workers are responsible for cleaning the biomedical waste in the wards and emergency areas.
