Taking serious note of Amarinders statement, urging his party workers to retaliate if provoked, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday moved the state Election Commission seeking action against the Punjab Congress chief for, what it termed, was a provocative and undemocratic speech.
With the state municipal elections to be held on Sunday,SAD secretary and spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema in a statement urged the state Election Commissioner to immediately take a serious note of the derogatory statement. He further said that the SAD had filed a written complaint with the SEC. The use of foul language in municipal elections could result in a serious law and order problem and disturb the hard-earned peace in the state, Cheema added.
Amarinder had earlier urged his party workers to hit them (Akalis) back twice if they try to hit you once.
In a statement released to the press from the SAD head office in Chandigarh,Cheema said that from the tone and tenor of the statement,it became clear that the Congress party had gone berserk after anticipating a crushing defeat in the municipal committee and corporation elections. Unable to face his partys high command and cadres,Amarinder Singh wants to disrupt the law and order situation in the state and use it to cover up his utter failures,Cheema added.
He further said that it has become the habit of the Congress chief to use foul language against the SAD-BJP leadership and create an atmosphere of hatred, enmity and tension.
Cheema accused Amarinder of sticking to the khunda culture, despite the peace loving people of the state having totally rejected it in the recent Assembly elections.
