A Group of organisations and individuals launched an association for RTI users on Thursday.
Activist H C Arora was selected the first convener of the association, which aims at further strengthening and formalising operation in the next six months. The association has also formed a webportal http://www.rightto.info for easy registration of all RTI users across the country.
Though it will take some time to have a proper organisational structure at all state headquarters where the office of Information Commission operates, but to kick-start the initiative we will start from Punjab and Haryana, Hemant Goswami of Citizens Voice said.
It has been four years since the enactment of the RTI Act. Hundreds of scams and anomalies have been unearthed with the help of RTI. In these years,we have realised that there is a need for greater interaction among the RTI users and further dissemination of information about the Act to the common man, said Kamal Anand of People for Transparency.
Hitender Jain of Resurgence India said the national-level webportal will be developed by collaborative efforts and include details like introduction to the RTI Act,online support for queries, discussion forum for RTI users and online social networking of activists, among other things.
The Association also mooted that a transparency week be observed between June 15 and June 21 every year.
