In another step towards the all-round development of Mohali under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the AAP government Tuesday launched a major infrastructure project worth Rs 17.71 crore for the construction and upgradation of key chowks and T-junctions across the city.
The project was formally inaugurated by Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh near Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana, where the work commenced after an ardas was performed in the presence of the Gurdwara Management Committee.
Under this project, new chowks will be constructed at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana, the Sector 78/79 junction, and the junction near CP-67 Mall. In addition, several major junctions are being upgraded, including the ISER T-Point on Airport Road (already about 90 per cent complete), Cheema Boiler Chowk T-Point, and Quark City Junction.
Before the commencement of work, an ardas was performed in the presence of the entire Gurdwara Management Committee. The committee requested that the new chowk be named after Baba Ji. Responding to the request, MLA Kulwant Singh assured them that he would take up the matter with the government and make every effort to name the chowk after “Amar Shaheed Jathedar Baba Hanuman Singh Ji”.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA said that five chowks have already been completed in Mohali, and the new infrastructure will further ease traffic flow and improve road safety. He added that GMADA’s technical team will execute the project with proper planning and efficiency, ensuring that traffic movement is not disrupted during the construction phase.
Senior GMADA officials, including Chief Engineer Ajay Garg, Superintending Engineer Parminder Singh, and XEN (Civil) Sukhwinder Singh, were present at the site.
The MLA said that the foundation stone of a women’s hostel in Sector 66 will be laid in the coming days. Replying to media queries, he clarified that action against illegal encroachments in Mohali is being carried out strictly in accordance with court orders. He cautioned that misleading statements amount to contempt of court and asserted that the people of Mohali are now fully aware and supportive of ongoing development works.
