Though HUDA is in an overdrive to recarpet roads in the township, its pick-and-choose policy has failed to yield the desired results. The procedure itself does not seem to hold much ground as rather than refurbishing roads,it is patch repair that HUDA is focusing on. Most of the main roads in the township including dividing road of Sector 5-8 leading up to the roundabout of Sector 10 is potholed for the past many months. Similarly, the road running opposite this which connects Sector 10,9,and 8 is in an equally dilapidated condition. The road around the roundabout in Sector 10 too is patchy and full of potholes.
The HUDA had claimed before the arrival of rains that it was recarpeting these roads and they had hoped to complete the work before the monsoon. HUDA has now put patches of concrete as part of the recarpeting plan rather than laying the entire road. Even though some part of these roads has been repaired,a drive down them sees through its claims of a smooth road. Barring the patches, deep fissures and potholes are visible after every few metres on the main roads.
Condition of roads inside the sectors is not up to mark, particularly the slip roads. Even the internal roads repaired in Sectors like Sector 8,10,12 have been treated with the pick and choose policy. Officials, meanwhile, have maintained that the work of recarpeting the road is going on and that it is not giving any preferential treatment to particular sector or part of the roads.
