Punjab is not promoted enough, says singer Daler Mehndi
Whoever is doing something for Punjab,I am with them and always supporting them, says Daler Mehndi as a compliment to Gurpreet Sekhon, the editor of G-Asia,a Punjabi magazine that celebrated the completion of its third successful year at the Press Club on Thursday. The magazine, targeted at Punjabis across the world,is read by a wide section of people. Sekhon says he is engaged in promoting Punjab and Punjabi culture through the magazine, which carries interesting articles and features on varied issues, providing both information and entertainment.
Our printing, presentation and quality of writing is at par with the best and we are competing with the English magazines, says Sekhon. Nods Mehndi, who rues that Punjab and Punjabi is not being promoted on television, radio or films. We never hear the language, see the people working for it,hear about our faith. Come to the Ludhiana railway station and all you see is posters of adult movies, with not a single hall playing a good Punjabi movie. Our Punjabiyat is being lost and all over Punjab there are only wine shops. The zeal, the unity, friendship, strength, everything is missing, he says.
Sekhon is looking forward to involving more people in his dream, getting them more involved with their roots and culture. I have given everything to this magazine and will continue to do so, says Sekhon, who had also invited boxer Vijender Singh for the function. We need more such projects, Singh says,on his part.
All set to release his new Punjabi album Dum Badam,Mehndi promises that the beats and the lyrics will have people on the dance floor. I am also looking forward to being the judge on Sa Re Ga Ma,which has a different concept this time, with children showcasing their talent and the judges supporting them all the way,” he says, adding that he is happy to work with anyone who is doing quality work in Punjabi.
