Rock ON!

Gavin Pacheo of the band Faridkot from Delhi was looking for originality.

City‘s rock band,The Carrot Fish, shoots to the top at Rockathon 09

Gavin Pacheo of the band Faridkot from Delhi was looking for originality. “And we gave it to him,“ rocks drummer and manager Sahil Sarin of Chandigarh-based band,The Carrot Fish, back with the winning trophy of The Rockathon 09,a national- level competition organized by ibibo.com which was held at The Jaypee University of Information Technology,Simla on April 13. Okay,so the band‘s name doesn‘t make any sense, but their music does. Which is a melodious mix of light rock and all other styles of music. “For those who judge a rock band by its name,The Carrot Fish was quite a shock,“ laughs Sarin,as he clinches on to the Rs 25,000 prize and tips us about their previous win – The Campus Rock Idol Chandigarh Series 5. “We don‘t restrict to any genre, and may be that‘s our USP. And with this as our base,we played four tracks, all original, composed, written and arranged by us,“ Sahil runs through the band members -five of them, all aged between 18 and 20 and share a great chemistry. While Sahib Singh,a second-year student of PEC plays the rhythm guitar,Nitish Malhotra, also a second-year student at PEC,is the lead guitarist and RIMT‘s Joydeep Singh, inspired by the Rolling Stones, plays the bass. Interestingly, all three have never taken any guitar classes and are autodidacts. There‘s Sahil himself, the drummer and student of Arts at DAV-10 who has played sessions for Delhi- based bands like Crimson,Level 9,Half Step Down and his tally of live gigs has exceeded 200 in the past two years. And finally, the lead vocalist,Pulkit Sharma, who has been singing and playing ever since he can remember and is an engineering student at Rayat and Bahra College. “Our driving strength is that we make music we love, share it with the crowd and have a blast while we do it! Interacting with the crowd and getting them involved in a routine is always a high we look forward to,“ the band‘s phone doesn‘t stop ringing, and as says Sahil,‘we are going places!‘ Watch out for their album soon!
