BJP president Rajnath Singh set the tone for the Lok Sabha elections on Friday,marking the beginning of the campaign in Chandigarh where he asked party leaders to stay united in order to win the upcoming election.
Singh is on a two-day visit to Chandigarh to review the election preparations in Punjab,Haryana and Himachal Pradesh apart from the city. Rajnath Singh stressed that only when the party is united that they could face any competition.
Motivating workers at the booth level,who had gathered for the meeting,he stated that it was the hard work of the workers at the grassroots that would ensure victory of the party. With reference to Modi,he said that they had done their bit at the centre. Now it was for the workers here to contribute their share.
Meanwhile party general secretary J P Nadda stated that Chandigarh should not elect people who insult its image.
It is a challenge for the people of Chandigarh to save the city and the country. Without naming the local Congress MP,Pawan Kumar Bansal,and the rail bribery scam,Nadda in a reference to him said that even though the image was that of an innocent person,he has now been caught,he added.
Earlier addressing the gathering,senior BJP leader Satya Pal Jain alleged that Bansal had insulted Chandigarh. He stated that people had had enough and wanted change.
Also,party in-charge Aarti Mehra,expressed similar views. She asked the workers to win the Chandigarh seat for BJP and ensure a Modi-led government at the centre.
President of BJPs state unit,Sanjay Tandon,set the agenda of the gathering by reaffirming the party ideology with the newly elected presidents of the booth
committees. He briefed them of their responsibilities in the upcoming elections,while asking them to associate more people with the partys line of thought.
He said that people of Chandigarh were disenchanted by the rampant corruption of the Congress government with its fountain head being in Chandigarh in the form of the local MP and former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.
