Severe weather alert for Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today
The minimum temperature in Punjab as on Saturday morning was 12 degrees Celsius in Gurdaspur, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius in Bathinda.

Severe thunderstorms, packing winds at 60-80 kilometres per hour (kmph) along with lightning, are forecasted in various Punjab districts — namely, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Ropar, Hoshiarpur, and SBS Nagar — on Sunday. Haryana districts including Karnal, Panchkula, Kaithal, Panipat, Ambala, and Faridabad will also experience the storm.
Recent winds wreaked havoc in Bhucho Mandi, Bathinda, damaging sheds, vehicles, and a petrol pump in the Dera Beas Satsang area.
In the wake of Western disturbances, rain lashed many places in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, bringing down maximum temperatures a few degrees below normal. Light to moderate rain is expected over the regions on Sunday as well.
The spell is likely to be accompanied with thunderstorm/ lightning/ gusty wind (speed 40-60 kmph) at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh as well in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, hailstorm and strong winds have become a cause of worry for the farmers in Punjab as wheat crop in many districts of Malwa Punjab such as Ludhiana, Bathinda, Faridkot and Muktsar have been affected.
However, Jaskaran Singh, director agriculture Punjab told The Indian Express that they were yet to get a complete report on the extent of damage caused to the crop.
Kirat Singh Gill, chief agriculture officer, Bathinda, while talking to The Indian Express said, “We have surveyed all the blocks of Bathinda and it rained everywhere, but hailstorm has affected crops in only about 20 villages… assesment of damage is yet to be done.”
