The repeated attacks on Indian students in Australia prompted city residents to express their anguish on Thursday. Led by the Kalgidhar Sewak Jatha,a number of local residents whose wards are in Australia, held a massive demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC’s) office in Phase I. A memorandum was, thereafter, submitted to DC Prabhjot Singh Mand for forwarding it to the Prime Minister and Union External Affairs Minister.

Jatha president Jatinder Pal Singh said,“It was very shocking to learn that some people in Australia attacked gurdwaras by throwing eggs. They also hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community by writing derogatory slogans on gurdwara walls.” “The videos display a catastrophic behaviour of the Australian Police against the Indians. It is high time that the Indian authorities take measures to secure our children there,” said one of the protesters.

Expressing anguish over the issue, the agitators raised slogans and held

placards against the Australian

Government.

“The Australians should not forget that their economy depends largely on the education industry, which is fostered by international students, mostly Asians,” said one of the agitators.
