In a meeting of chairpersons,heads and directors of various departments of Panjab University with the Vice-Chancellor (VC) and the Director of Central Placement Cell today,it was emphasised that there is a need for generating effective manpower for the industry.
Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University,Prof R C Sobti,asserted that the students should be trained in accordance with the needs and requirements of the industry.
He further said that the course curriculum of the various departments should be updated and designed in a manner that they contribute to the knowledge of the students and help them nurture their skills in a better way.
This need can be fulfilled through tutorials being organised by the departments to enhance the interaction with students.
Also,by organising guest lectures from the industry,experts for the students as they get to know the industry requirements,selection criteria,job prospects,market and standards, Sobti said.
Everyone present in the meeting agreed that there should be a better focus on students placements both among the teachers and the students,right from the beginning of the course.
Further,the Director of Panjab Universitys Central Placement Cell,Suresh K Chadha,discussed the placement plan for students who will pass out this year with the various faculty members present in the meeting.
