PU holds social science research training programme

Teachers and research scholars from various social science disciplines hailing from the north-west eegion are taking part in the training programme.

A two-week long training programme on methodology in social science research organised by the ICSSR north-western regional centre was inaugurated at the ICSSR Complex in Panjab University on Monday.

Professor Veer Singh, Emeritus professor of laws, Panjab University, in his key-note address highlighted that in knowledge society today, those with cutting edge dominate world polity.

“Man’s natural curiosity urges him to learn by invitation, experience or speculation. Merely knowing is not enough. Applied research brings desirable change and here social science research lacks. It is the rigorous in the methodology of the social science research that would make it worthwhile for application,” professor Veer Singh said.

Professor Ronki Ram, the honorary director, ICSSR north-western regional centre, highlighted the importance of research methodology training workshops in social science research.

“Social science researches address phenomenon that are socially relevant. Hence, they should acquire such skills to pursue research,” he said.

The inaugural session was followed by a technical session on the meaning and aspects of social science research by Professor S L Sharma and epistemological issues in social science research by Professor Bhupinder Brar former Dean University Instruction, Panjab University.
