PU holds breast,cervix cancer awareness-cum-detection camp

A breast and cervix cancer awareness and detection camp was organised in Panjab University today,wherein more than 70 participants including faculty members,non-teaching members and students of the university underwent a routine medical examination and were issued free coupons for mammography and smear test.

A breast and cervix cancer awareness and detection camp was organised in Panjab University (PU) today,wherein more than 70 participants including faculty members,non-teaching members and students of the university underwent a routine medical examination and were issued free coupons for mammography and smear test.

During the camp,Dr Firuza Patel from the department of Radiotherapy in Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) briefed the audience about the symptoms and the effects of breast and cervix cancer through an audio-visual presentation.

The camp was jointly organised by Panjab University Teachers Union (PUTA) and Amrit Foundation.

The combined cost for mammography and smear test equals Rs 1500. However,the Amrit Foundation has collaborated with the IMA Bhawan in Sector 35 and MRI Superb Centre in Sector 8 for providing participants free access to smear test and mammography.

Since April this year,the foundation has distributed free coupons to more than 600 women in the city by holding similar camps in the UT Excise and Taxation Department in Sector 17,UT Secretariat in Sector 9,St Stephens School in Sector 45 and State Bank of Patiala in Sector 8.
