The Left parties and the Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) on Sunday came together to form an alliance for the 2012 Assembly elections in Punjab.
This was announced at Bundala,the native village of former CPM general secretary late Harkishan Singh Surjeet,on his death anniversary. According to PPP chief Manpreet Singh Badal and Left leaders,the alliance is likely to take shape in the next two weeks.
Addressing a gathering at Bundala,CPM state secretary Charan Singh Virdee,CPI central committee member Joginder Dyal and Manpreet Badal spoke about the need to form an alliance a third front in Punjab to give a strong Opposition to the SAD-BJP as well as the Congress.
The leaders claimed that there is no effective third front in the state,which had led both Congress and SAD-BJP- combine to come to power.
Manpreet has set up a four-member committee comprising Jagbir Brar,Kushaldeep Dhillon,Kuldip Singh Dhos and Abhay Singh Sandhu to hold talks with Left leaders regarding the alliance.
