‘No offence made out against former Haryana Dy CM’

The Mohali police have absolved Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammad of the charges of rape, cheating, hurting religious sentiments, defamation and criminal intimidation, levelled by his ‘estranged’ second wife Anuradha Bali alias Fiza.

“No offence is made out on the complaint,” opined the legal attorney from whom Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jatinder Singh Aulakh had sought opinion on a criminal complaint filed by the 37-year-old former assistant advocate general of Haryana against the 43-year-old former Haryana deputy chief minister. On the basis of the legal opinion, the SSP ordered to lodge Fiza’s complaint without initiating any action. “According to the legal opinion, the complaint required no action,” confirmed Aulakh.

Upon receiving the complaint from Fiza, the SSP had on February 16 marked a probe into the matter to the then SP (City) Varinder Pal Singh.

After recording the statement of Fiza, who had produced the nikahnama (Muslim marriage certificate),and considering the statement of Chand received through fax from London, the SP had recommended legal opinion on the matter, attributing the complaint to “strained relations” between the couple.

In her 10-page complaint,Fiza had alleged that Chand’s conversion to Islam and the second marriage with her was “fraud and cheating”. On the other hand,Chand had denied deserting Fiza,re-conversion to Hinduism and uttering anything defamatory against her or issuing any threats.

Will go to court: Fiza
Crying foul over the police action,Fiza said she would move court to seek justice. “Police acted as expected under the influence of the political family, but I will fight till the end to restore my lost dignity,” Fiza told Newsline over phone. Alleging that she had received yet another “threat” letter,Fiza claimed to have got an offer of Rs 26 crore to keep her mouth “shut”. “I don’t want money and will continue my fight to expose modern day politicians,” she said, claiming support from human rights activists from abroad. Fiza also confirmed receiving offer from a leading Hindi film director for a role in a film on her life. “I recently met several renowned figures of Hindi cinema in Mumbai,” she said.
