Panic Button

This season,as Channel V’s show Gumrah returns for the third time,its focus is simple — “be aware,be prepared,be safe”. In line with this thought,the channel has developed a phone application called VithU — which they call a “panic button” that can be used in the face of danger. For now,the app is alive on Android phones and will soon be available on iOS and other phones.

“We hope you never have to use this app,” says Prem Kamath,GM & Channel Head,adding that the idea was developed in-house in wake of recent cases of rapes and harassment. “The mobile is one thing that almost everyone has,and our app is made in such a way that all one needs to do is press the power button of their phone twice,and a message ‘I’m in trouble,please help me’ will reach five given people on your list,along with your location,” explains Kamath.

VithU,he adds,is an extension of the show,which will be anchored by Karan Kundra,and will see Chitrangda Singh talking about the app. “This is a way to reach the youth beyond television,and take it into a real life context,” he adds.
