Palms are known to fill all slots. They are not only sturdy pot plants for indoor display, but can be used outdoors for beautification. The accompanying picture shows that the area available is too little, but the plants have grown well and the growth is also disciplined with no fear of leaf-shedding. The plant keeps giving tillers and fills space. Old plants can be removed to be replaced by young ones coming from below. In case of palms, remember do not starve the plant of water at any stage,as once it starts declining there is no remedy. This is more so when planted in pots.

* My adenium plants are in full bloom. I want to gift a plant. Can I propagate it? If so,how?

Sukhdeep Kaur,Chandigarh

Yes Sukhdeep, this is the right time to do so. This can be done by way of cutting and the success rate will be 100 per cent.

* Some of my haworthia plants in the pot are dying and can be easily pulled out. What could be the reason? How can I check it?
Maninder Singh,Chandigarh
This happens due to the thick tuft of plants formed because of rapid multiplication in the pot. As a result, water does not reach down and is retained in the bunch. Gently pull out the dead or dying plants from the bunch and keep the pot in cool place where it is not exposed to direct sun. Water the plant gently so that it does not fall on the plant tuft. It will be better if you water it by putting it in a shallow pan.

* The leaves of my kaddu vines are being eaten by some insect. What could this be and how can I check it?
Kavita,Chandigarh
Kaddu vines are being eaten by red pumpkin beetle. Spray the vines with sevin (carbaryl),dissolved at two-and-a-half gram to a litre of water. Repeat the spray after ten days.

* My rose plant leaves are being eaten by some insect. Only the ribs are left. What could it be?
Sardara Singh,Mohali
It seems the leaves are being eaten by chaffer beetle. This may also happen to grape and guava leaves. Spray sevin as advised in case of red pumpkin beetle
